I hear this from parents all the time:
“The GP said it’s fine they haven’t pooped in 5 days.”
“Breastfed babies can go a week without pooing – it’s normal.”
Here’s the thing – common doesn’t always mean optimal.
As a chiropractor trained in paediatric and nervous system care, I often see babies who are gassy, straining, unsettled, or going days without a bowel movement.
And here’s what we know:
- Bowel movements are controlled by the nervous system.
- Stress, tension, or birth-related misalignments can disrupt that balance.
- A backed-up baby usually doesn’t feel comfortable.
I’ve seen babies have a full nappy within hours of a gentle adjustment. Not every time – but often enough to know something is shifting.
To me, regular, easy poos are a sign of a regulated, comfortable baby.
So if your little one seems off, trust your instincts. You know when something isn’t quite right.
I’m here to help. If you’d like support let’s get you booked in for an appointment. Your baby deserves to feel their best!
